Windows Server 2012 RS KB2919355 During SQL Server Installation

When I was installing SQL Server 2016 on my dev box, I saw a failure during setup stating that I needed to install KB2919355. This is a tricky fix because the solution is actually rather obscure. In order to install KB2919355, you have to install KB2919442 first! The libraries also say they are for Windows 8.1 to make it even more confusing.

KB2919355 – Won’t Install on Windows Server!

The download for KB2919355 says it is for Windows 8.1, and won’t install, which is what makes this process so confusing. In order to fix this, you will need to download another KB library that will fix this issue. Install KB2919442 first and then KB2919355 will install.

KB2919442 – Install this first!

This KB installation needs to be installed before installing KB2919355.
